If a cat lives in your house that does not even go outside at all, then there is a fairly high probability that one day, far from being a fine day, you will see parasites in her feces. These can be worms several millimeters long or larger specimens. What should a person who has just discovered that their cat has helminths to do?

Instructions

Step 1

Don't panic. Yes, worms in a cat are unpleasant, but not fatal and in the overwhelming majority of cases it is not dangerous for humans. If you have seen with your own eyes that your animal is infected with helminths, then you can deworm it without being tested. Without being a specialist, you may not be able to tell which parasites your cat has. Most often these are either flat tapeworms, for example, cucumber tapeworm, or roundworms - toxocara. In addition, the fact that you saw one type of worms in a cat's tray does not mean that it is possible to exclude the possibility of a mixed infestation in the animal.

Step 2

For these reasons, buy a broad-spectrum anthelmintic at the pet store that is active against different types of worms. Calculate the dosage based on your pet's weight. If you cannot accurately observe it, then it is better to give the medicine in a slightly larger amount (for example, 2, 5 tablets instead of 2 ¼) than in less, because then not all parasites will die.

Step 3

Give your cat an anthelmintic on an empty stomach, that is, the last meal she has before taking the medication should be light enough and at least 9-10 hours before you give her the tablets. After 10-12 days, the medication should be repeated so that the parasites hatched from the eggs during this time die. Open the mouth of the animal and confidently drop the pill on the root of the tongue, and then pat it on the throat. The cat will safely swallow the pill if done correctly.

Step 4

If you want to make sure that your animal is free of parasites - for example, you took a cat into the house and do not want to stuff it with enough toxic anthelmintic drugs for no particular reason - you can take the animal's feces analysis to a special laboratory. Based on the results of his research, you will not only find out if your pet has parasites, but you will also know exactly their types, which will allow your veterinarian to choose the most effective treatment regimen.
