Cats are great animals for home keeping. Some of their shortcomings can be easily dealt with. The pet is easily accustomed to the litter box, regular manicure will protect the upholstered furniture from sharp claws. But there is a problem that often confuses the owners. These are marks that a grown-up cat begins to leave literally everywhere. This unpleasant phenomenon can and should be fought by applying all methods - from the mildest to the most radical.

Tags are a kind of "calling card" of a cat. The animal goes through the whole process with amazing speed. The cat turns its back to the chosen surface, lifts its tail and sprays a small amount of urine. Any items in the house can be subjected to such processing - furniture, children's toys, shoes, indoor plants, office equipment - everything that will attract the attention of your pet.

The tags do not indicate the vindictiveness or untidiness of the cat - this is just his way of communicating with the world. It is useless to punish an animal - it will not understand what it was guilty of. It is also impossible to stop the cat - the whole tagging process takes a few seconds. Free walking will not solve the problem either - the animal will mark both at home and on the street.

Animal behavior experts note that cats with a high hormonal background are actively tagging. Some pets show no interest in tagging at all, but others begin to be active at a fairly early age - from 10 months.

Another reason for tags is stress. The animal can react to the appearance of a new pet in the house, the departure of a beloved owner, frequent parties, and even for repairs. The more negativity in a cat's life, the more actively he strives to calm himself, marking his territory with a familiar smell.

A stressed cat needs to be reassured. Try giving him mild herbal preparations available from your veterinarian. Consult a pharmacy employee, he will advise you on drops that cats especially like. You should not offer valerian to the beast - it acts not soothingly, but exciting.

Eliminate the source of stress. More often take your pet in your arms, stroke him, calm him down, speak affectionately with him. If all the measures taken did not help, consult your veterinarian - he may prescribe stronger sedatives.

All these measures are necessary if you have a purebred animal that can give promising offspring. It will not be possible to completely eliminate the marks, however, you can slightly reduce the activity of the pet. If the owners do not plan to obtain offspring from the cat, it is better to neuter it. It is advisable to do this at a young age (7-9 months), however, older animals also tolerate the operation without problems.

After surgery, the cat may leave marks from time to time, but the smell will be much weaker, and this will happen less and less.
