How to tell if a cat has fleas? First, brush your pet's coat regularly. This will help not only get rid of dead hair, but also assess the condition of the skin. Second, pay more attention to your cat's behavior. If she starts scratching her ears, neck, or biting her tail with her hind legs, she most likely has fleas.
Bathe your cat before using any other remedy. Pour some water into a basin or bathroom, the temperature of which should be about + 37-38 degrees. To prevent the animal from being frightened by the noise of the water jet, water it with a shower or a ladle. Avoid getting water in your ears, otherwise there is a high risk of otitis media. Wash the coat with a special flea shampoo, rinse it thoroughly and dry the coat with one or two towels.
Since it is not recommended to bathe your cat more often than 1 time in 2 months, you can prevent the appearance of fleas with the help of drops. They are applied externally to those places that the cat, licking itself, will not be able to reach (as a rule, at the withers). It is advisable to apply drops on a clean coat, but depending on the composition of the product, there may be exceptions. In addition, the dosage depends on the weight and age of the animal, so carefully read the instructions before use.
A flea spray can be used instead of drops on a clean coat. To do this, it is enough to spray the product several times over the cat until the coat is slightly moistened. It is advisable to carry out this procedure every two weeks. The advantages of the spray are also that it can be used to treat cat litter, on which a mass of harmful bacteria and parasites accumulates.
To remove fleas from small kittens, do not use chemicals. For treatment, special combs with frequent teeth are suitable. With their help, comb the kitten thoroughly every other day, paying special attention to the area behind the ears and muzzle. Fleas will remain on the comb and use rubbing alcohol to destroy them.
