Raising rabbits at home can be very rewarding. These animals are very fertile, and their maintenance does not require a significant investment of time and money. The main task of the owner is to provide the animal with normal living conditions and protect the pet from possible diseases. Having accumulated a little experience in caring for a rabbit, you can safely organize a small rabbit farm.

Step 1
Prepare a spacious cage, which you can easily make yourself from the materials at hand - scraps of boards, slats, thick plywood and metal mesh. For a medium-sized rabbit, the size of the dwelling should be approximately 900x600x500 mm. If you are planning to have a pair of animals, provide a nest compartment for the female in the cage.
Step 2
Choose a place to keep the animal. It is easier to solve this issue in a private or country house, where the cage can be placed on a veranda or under a canopy. In an urban setting, an insulated loggia or a glazed balcony is suitable. In the future, if you want to expand the farm, you can use part of the living quarters for maintenance. Of course, this should not interfere with normal living.
Step 3
Be responsible for the choice of animal. It is best to buy a rabbit not on the market, but from professional private rabbit breeders or from specialized farms. This reduces the risk of acquiring faulty or sick animals.
Step 4
Provide proper nutrition for your rabbit. The basis of the diet should be hay. It is best to prepare food yourself in order to exclude poisonous plants from getting into food. In summer, the rabbit can also be fed with dried grass, clover, and tree leaves. Include grains in your diet: barley, oats, and wheat. In addition, give the animal root vegetables and mineral salts. There should always be fresh water in the cage. The animal should be fed at least twice a day.
Step 5
Maintain a constant temperature in the room where the animal is kept, avoiding sudden changes. Ventilation is required, but drafts should not be allowed. In the summertime, the rabbit can be taken out into the fresh air, taking care that the animal does not get caught in the wind or rain.
Step 6
Take your daily pet care seriously. Rabbits are very fond of cleanliness, so the cage should be cleaned regularly. Add general cleaning to your daily tidying up by doing it at least once a week. With proper and timely care, the rabbit will grow healthy and mature quickly. If you later want to find a pair for your pet, then be prepared for the fact that a female can bring several dozen cubs per year.
