Bassetts are a friendly breed and get along very well with children. They are very observant and curious, so it is very interesting with these dogs. Basset health is stable, but in order for your pet to be comfortable, you need to follow some rules of keeping.

1. Litter. The first thing that is necessary before a baby appears in the house is to prepare a cozy place for him. Basset hounds on a slippery floor have paws spreading in all directions, and therefore paws and toes are not formed correctly. Cover the floor with a large rag or newspaper. The puppy will run comfortably, and the paws will not part when moving. The bedding should be washed 2-3 times a day, and the newspapers should be changed 3-4 times a day with new ones. Watch your baby closely to avoid eating his bedding and newspapers. Arrange a bed for sleeping on a small hill, in a secluded place without drafts.

2. Feeding. Start by feeding your puppy right from the beginning. First, set the bowl of food and water just above the dog's waist. Have the puppy pull up a little for food instead of bending over. For the first two months, it is recommended to feed the basset 6 times a day. In the morning, give the puppy cottage cheese mixed with a raw egg or milk porridge (buckwheat, rice, wheat, oatmeal). It is good to add growth minerals to young dogs in the morning diet, which can be purchased at your veterinary pharmacy. The second feed is at about 11 o'clock in the afternoon, feed the puppy with porridge cooked in meat broth. You can also add grated fresh carrots to the porridge.

Feed your puppy soaked and swollen dry dog food at 2pm. You can soak the food both in warm boiled water and in warm kefir. At 4 pm, prepare a vegetable stew - cut potatoes, carrots, zucchini, beets into small pieces and boil. Prepare soaked dry food for the fifth meal at 6pm. At 20-21 o'clock feed the puppy raw meat with a small amount of raw and boiled vegetables.

3. Vaccination. The first vaccinations are given to a Basset at one and a half months. Until this time, it is impossible to take the puppy out for a walk. With the help of antihelmetics, prevent worms, and after 10 days go for vaccination. Give antihelmetic in the morning before meals, and after 4-5 hours - activated charcoal. It will help remove the remnants of worms from the body. Sometimes the breeders already carry out the prevention of worms, so check when you will get the puppy, what procedures were carried out and what vaccinations the basset has already done. The list of vaccinations will be suggested to you at the veterinary station, but these will definitely be vaccinations against plague, enteritis, hepatitis, adenovirus, parvoflu, rabies.

4. Health and care. After all vaccinations are done, take the puppy outside and walk with him as much as possible. This dog breed is very obese, so exercise should be sufficient. Trim your dog's nails with a nail clipper. Clean your puppy's ears every ten days with a soft cloth dampened with warm water. There is no need to comb the basset; washing is often not recommended. After outside, wipe the dog's paws and coat with a damp soft cloth. If the basset has got fleas, use a special collar or drops on the withers. Protect dogs from hypothermia. Don't go for long walks in cold weather or rain.

5. Training. If you do not strive to make the dog show, then it is enough from 2 to 4 months to teach the puppy the basic commands: "To me", "Fu", "Place", as well as the response to the nickname.

And most importantly - do not be afraid to consult with veterinarians and breeders - they will be happy to help you raise a healthy Basset!
