Ticks are carriers of tick-borne encephalitis and piroplasmosis. If the first disease poses a serious danger to humans, then the second can undermine the dog's health and even lead to its death. That is why when the first snow melts, it is necessary to protect your pet from these parasites by all possible methods.

Step 1
Use special products designed to protect dogs from ticks: drops, sprays and collars. Drops are applied to the withers of the animal and differ from sprays in a higher concentration of the active substance per unit volume. They are usually used on dogs with very thick coats. Sprays are sprayed all over the animal's coat against its growth, and the collars are put on for the period specified in the instructions.
Step 2
In recent years, drops and collars "Bars" of Russian production and "Advantiks", collar Kiltix, sprays Bolfo have proven themselves well. In addition, experienced dog breeders recommend using the drug "Neostomazan" to protect against ticks. The ampoule of the latter must be diluted in a liter of water, poured into a spray bottle and used as a spray. They can also work the grass on the site.
Step 3
When using anti-tick products, be sure to follow the instructions provided. Excessive drops or spray can negatively affect the health of the animal, and a decrease can lead to a tick bite. You can bathe your pet at least 3 days before treatment and only 3 days after it. And after applying the spray, the dog should never be allowed to lick itself for the first few hours.
Step 4
Combine tick protection wisely. There are several opinions about the possibility of using several tools at once. Some do not recommend doing this, fearing for the state of the animal's liver, others believe that this is the only way to protect it from a tick bite. The best option is to combine the above-described chemical remedies with biological preparations based on vegetable oils, the smell of which is not tolerated by ticks. The latter include Green Fort collars and sprays.
Step 5
Examine your pet carefully for ticks after each walk, not only in the forest, but also in the yard. Remember that no product offers 100% protection against ticks, so check your pet's coat carefully each time.
Step 6
If you notice a tick on the fur, be sure to remove it and burn it. If the tick has sucked, twist it counterclockwise with tweezers and treat the bite with an antiseptic. In this case, it is very important to get the parasite with the head. Then observe the dog closely for a couple of weeks. If your pet's temperature rises, lethargy, vomiting or lack of appetite, seek immediate veterinarian help, as these signs may indicate a pyroplasmosis disease.
