Few people have not come across the relatively modern concept of "broiler". At one time, the chicken "legs of Bush" made a lot of noise, and for many, this term began to be associated exclusively with chicken.

Often the word “broiler” is perceived in a negative way. And some people - because of his American background, others because of the alleged harm. Meanwhile, birds of various species are widely grown by this method everywhere: chickens, ducks, geese, etc. Cultivation of each species is associated with a certain specificity, but there are also common points.

What is broiler?

Broiler birds are very different from their regular counterparts even in appearance. In zootechnics, this term is understood as a combination in an animal of certain genetic factors that are responsible for the active development of muscles. This set of traits is achieved through a long selection and selection of suitable producers. In fact, this is a narrowly focused evolutionary process controlled by specialists.

Under adequate environmentally friendly conditions for growing poultry, broiler meat is harmless and does not differ in anything other than quantity from ordinary poultry meat. Another issue is that modern animal husbandry is often very tightly timed, and many enterprises use growth stimulants or hormones to accelerate the fattening of the mass, which can ultimately adversely affect the health of those who will consume the finished product.

Broiler geese

For many centuries, geese have lived next to humans, but they are still raised mainly by small farms. For development, these birds need a lot of space (at least two hundred square meters per one), good grazing with an abundance of grass, a small swamp or lake, and clean water in the drinking bowls, which should be changed every day.

There are both pros and cons to raising broiler geese. On the one hand, feed costs are relatively low, since the goose is a herbivorous bird. They do not need protein supplements, and they need very little grains as an addition to the usual diet. On the other hand, communication with such birds requires skill and experience, and it is very difficult to find a good grazing place, which is necessary for growing individuals to gain weight.

Goslings grow quickly: from a week of age they are released for grazing. At about the same age, they are accustomed to water, since the lack of access to a reservoir negatively affects the health and character of the birds. When approaching the cultivation of broilers, first of all, you should pay attention to their genetics, since it is she who guarantees a quick and large-scale gain of mass or lack thereof.
