Among the variety of all fish living on the planet, one can distinguish both peaceful species and merciless predators. The first species feeds exclusively on plant foods, and the second - omnivorous and eternally hungry creatures.

Variety of predatory fish

Freshwater predators include burbot, catfish, pike perch, pike, asp, perch, grayling and other commercial fish. Among the predators plowing the sea and ocean spaces, moray eels, barracuda, piranha, cod, catfish, pink salmon and, of course, all kinds of sharks are especially distinguished. The most striking characteristic feature of all predatory fish is extraordinary greed and excessive gluttony. These creatures feed on both other fish and mammals and even birds. Some of them, such as sharks, often pick up various garbage thrown by people from ships into the water, for example, cans and other inedible food leftovers.

The largest freshwater predator

This is, of course, catfish. Catfish is a scaleless, predatory freshwater fish. Some specimens are capable of reaching a length of 5 m, and weighing up to 400 kg. The favorite habitats of catfish are lakes and rivers that overflow in the European part of Russia. There is a widespread belief that catfish prefer to eat spoiled food and rotting carrion. This is not entirely true. The favorite delicacy of most catfish are molluscs, freshwater small animals and birds. The main catch of catfish is, of course, fish. This predator is nocturnal, and throughout the day it lays under snags and in deep pits. In the history of fishing, there are cases when the catfish even attacked a person.

Predatory inhabitants of the ocean and sea depths

The world's oceans, which make up most of the entire globe, are inhabited by a wide variety of creatures. In its invisible depths, as on land, there is a real struggle for survival. Evolution has equipped non-predatory fish with real tools that make them feel like the real masters of life. These are sharks with powerful jaws and razor-sharp teeth; this is a devil fish, "equipped" with a kind of "antenna" with a growth, which allows it to catch prey; these are lightning moray eels, which are considered one of the most dangerous predators of the planet; these are bloodthirsty piranhas, attacking in a flock and leaving only bones from the victim in a matter of minutes.

Predatory fish lifestyle

The vast majority of all predators roam the vastness of the tropics and subtropics. This is understandable: warm waters contain a large number of warm-blooded mammals and herbivorous fish, which make up the main diet of predator fish. Often, these creatures, in a fit of their greed, swallow such an amount of food that their stomachs cannot even digest! Ichthyologists who have studied the behavior of predatory and peaceful fish note that the former are noticeably distinguished by the most developed intellect than their prey. According to researchers, predatory fish are extremely inventive creatures. That only is the famous white shark, which is the most dangerous fish in the world for humans. Ichthyologists who have experimented with white sharks in the Bahamas believe that these fish are much smarter than domestic cats.
