Dry pet food is a convenient invention. The owners do not need to think about a balanced diet, about cooking, they just need to open the package and pour the food into a bowl. The variety on the feed market often confuses inexperienced owners who are trying to choose a diet for their pet.

The feed must be fresh, not expired. Such food does not have crumbs, has a neutral or bread smell, and should not smell sour. It is advisable to buy food in closed packages, and not by weight. During production, the air from the packs is removed and replaced with nitrogen, so the feed retains its freshness for a long time, and when opened it quickly deteriorates and damp.

Read the packaging carefully and choose the right food for your dog. If you have a German shepherd puppy, choose a diet for large breed puppies, and if you have a Yorkshire terrier puppy, buy food for small or mini breed puppies. They differ both in the size of the granules and in the content of various additives and minerals. It is convenient to choose food for specific breeds.

If your animal suffers from some kind of disease, then this should also be paid attention to. There are medicinal rations for dogs prone to a particular disease. Medicinal feeds marked "Veterinary diet" are prescribed only by a veterinarian, and feeds for the prevention of diseases, for example, hypoallergenic or for sensitive digestion, can be selected independently.

There are a huge number of different brands on the market, but everything can be divided into four categories. The first is economy class. These are cheap feeds, low in nutrients, high in plant waste, soy, and animal by-products. Long-term feeding with this type of food can lead to diseases due to a lack of minerals, vitamins, proteins and other substances, therefore, when feeding a dog with such food, regularly give it vitamins and other useful supplements. Economy-class feeds include such brands as "Pedigri", "Chappi", "Trapeza". In foreign countries, these brands belong to a higher class, but a different product is supplied to the Russian market.

Next in quality and additives comes the premium class. This is a more thoughtful and balanced diet, which requires less intervention of the owner in feeding the pet. Such popular brands as "Royal Canin", "Proplan", "Hills" belong to it. Many have started production on Russian territory and the quality of food has dropped significantly. Also, due to the popularity, there are many fakes.

Super-premium feeds are "Eukanuba", some types of "Akana", "Innova", "Origen". They already have no offal, a lot of nutrients, a completely balanced diet.

Holistic feeds usually do not contain any cereal products. “Kanidae”, some types of “Akana”, “Go!”, “Now” are top class food. Despite the high price, they are very nutritious, so the consumption is low, and as a result they do not come out much more expensive than the lower classes of feed.
