Aquarium accessories differ in their variety. Even an experienced aquarist can get confused by all these jars, boxes and tubes, let alone a beginner in this business. If you are just starting to master aquarium hobby and are going to purchase everything you need to keep beautiful tropical fish at home, it will not be superfluous for you to learn how to make your own fish feeder. Trust me, it's very simple.

It is necessary

plexiglass glue, plexiglass, plastic, hollow rubber tube, styrofoam, knife, awl

Instructions

Step 1

A dry food trough is very easy to make from regular foam. Take a small rectangular piece 1-1.5 cm high. The length and width depend on the size of your aquarium and does not play a special role. Using a sharp blade or knife, carefully cut a rectangular or square frame out of the foam. Make sure that the width of the edge of the frame is not more than 2 cm, but you should not make it very narrow either. Such a feeder will keep well on the water and will not sink, and in case of contamination or deformation, such a feeder can be easily replaced with a new one.

Step 2

If you don't have foam at hand or you want to create something more practical and less extravagant for your aquarium, the feeder can be made of a rubber or plastic tube with a diameter of 0.8 - 1 cm. Fold the tube with a ring, and fix the ends with a non-sinking cylindrical object a little smaller diameter. Such a feeder will also float, but unlike a foam feeder, it can accidentally sink if water enters the tube cavity. Make sure that the connections are tightly sealed and do not disengage due to gravity or contact with water.

Step 3

For live food, make a double bottom feeder. If a frame floating freely on the surface of the water is sufficient for feeding the fish with dry crustaceans, then a feeder with small holes is needed for the bloodworm. Fish will swim up to the feeder and grab live food hanging from the holes. Such a feeder can be made of plexiglass or plastic up to 1.5 mm thick. Make a rectangular frame out of four strips of glass, carefully gluing them together. Also make the bottom of the feeder from plexiglass or plastic. A large number of holes must be made in the bottom, with a diameter of about 2 mm. When all parts of the pan are ready, glue the base to the bottom. You can attach such a feeder to the edge of the aquarium with wire hooks.
