Many kitten owners have to deal with the problem of constipation in their pets. As a rule, this happens when the baby is separated from the mother or when the food is changed. How to treat constipation in kittens?
It is necessary
- - Vaseline oil;
- - condensed milk;
- - enema
The simplest, most effective and safe way to deal with constipation in small kittens is to use petroleum jelly. It envelops the intestinal wall of the animal and, at the same time, is absolutely not absorbed and does not have a negative effect on the body. If you notice that the baby has not had a bowel movement for two days, you need to give him 2-3 drops of petroleum jelly. As a rule, the bowel function returns to normal within a few hours after this. Do not feed the kitten until the feces are gone.
You should be aware that the use of castor oil or vegetable oil as an enveloping laxative is not recommended. These types of oils can cause soreness in your baby's belly and even lead to liver disease.
An enema is considered another way to combat constipation. However, you should know that it is not recommended to carry out this procedure yourself, if you do not have the appropriate experience. This is especially true for small kittens. An ineptly delivered enema will not only not bring relief to the animal, but it can also cause serious harm to its health by damaging the intestines.
To treat constipation in older kittens, you can use a mixture of condensed milk and raw water. As a rule, such a drink causes a softening of the stool and leads to the normalization of the stool within a few hours.
You should be aware that constipation lasting more than seven days can lead to the death of a kitten. Therefore, if you could not cope with the problem on your own within 2-4 days, you must take the baby to the veterinarian. Remember that constipation can not only be the result of poor diet or feed changes, but also a symptom of serious illness. For example, kidney failure.
It is strictly forbidden to independently prescribe laxatives or antibacterial drugs - this can lead to a sharp deterioration in the condition of the animal.
Perform a complete examination of the kitten and strictly follow the instructions of the veterinarian.
