The Dobermann is a young breed, its history began more than a century ago thanks to Friedrich Louis Dobermann. Despite the fact that the Doberman breed officially appeared in 1880, its creator began breeding much earlier.

Friedrich Louis Dobermann lived in the small German town of Apold, worked as a policeman and tax collector. For his service he needed a loyal, fearless and strong dog. Among the existing breeds, he did not find one, so he decided to breed a new one. In his view, the ideal dog should be of medium size, have a smooth coat that does not require careful grooming, a quick reaction. She needs three qualities: wickedness, intelligence and vigilance.

For breeding the Doberman Pinscher, Friedrich bought a house and gathered a group of friends. Several breeds of dogs were used in the work: hunting dogs, mastiffs, German shepherds, blue mastiffs, old German pinschers, beaucers, rottweilers. But the most important thing in the selection of dogs was not the breed, but the working qualities.

As a result of long work on breeding the breed, dogs appeared, which were initially called the Thuringian Pinschers. In 1894, they were renamed Doberman Pinschers, and then Dobermans.

The Doberman bred a vicious dog breed that many feared. To buy a Doberman pinscher could be families with children, Otto Geller slightly changed the nature of these animals, softening their intransigence and viciousness.

The Dobermans were officially presented as a new breed in 1897 at a dog show in the city of Efrurt. In 1899, the Doberman Pinscher Club was created, and in 1900 it became nationwide. By this time in Germany there were more than 1000 representatives of the breed.

The most famous Doberman is the bloodhound Tref. He was born in the legendary Otto Geller kennel "Von Thuringer". During his life, he helped solve more than 1,500 crimes. In the twentieth century, thanks to the dog handler V. I. Lebedev, Dobermans became popular in Russia. Tref attended the first All-Russian test of police dogs, which took place in October 1908, and showed excellent results.

Russian dog breeders bought Doberman puppies in Germany and were engaged in breeding the breed. In 1925, the "Section of Dobermans and German Shepherd Dogs" was created, and exhibitions and demonstration performances were held on its basis. If, until the 1940s, these dogs were often used as sappers, demolition men and paratroopers, then later they practically ceased to be involved in work, and German shepherds came to replace them.

Now the Doberman breed cannot be called popular either. Not many are ready to keep a large and energetic dog in an apartment, and the enclosure is not suitable for these animals, since they do not have an undercoat. But those who dare to raise the Doberman fall in love with this breed forever.
