Feed the barbs both dry and plant-based food. Bloodworms, tubifex, daphnia, cortetra, cyclops and other animal feed are well suited for feeding. Be sure to add vitamin D to dry food.

Give barbs two fasting days a week. On fasting days, feed barbs once or at most twice a day and always in a small portion. Such a small "hunger strike" will avoid overeating.

As a plant-based food, feed scalded lettuce and cucumber to the barbs. If the barbs are not given vegetation, then your aquarium plants can be completely eaten away.

When keeping several varieties of barbs, keep in mind that some species are faster and more mobile, so they will eat food faster than their slower counterparts. In this case, make two feeders in the aquarium. First, pour food into one - this will attract the attention of the most active fish.
