The pearl parrot (or Kramer's bird) is one of the most common and unpretentious bird species. He does not need any sophistication, he easily trusts a person and, moreover, has an amazing ability to talk (the chick memorizes up to 60 words!). So it will definitely not be boring with him.

The characteristic features of the necklace parrots are a stripe on the chest in the form of a tie or necklace, a red beak and an orange ring around the eyes. But in color, they may differ slightly. So, depending on the habitat, there are - plum-breasted, emerald, red-headed, pink-breasted, gray-headed (Himalayan), gray-breasted (Chinese) and almost pure green (Mauritian). And also multi-colored (Malabar and Alexandrian).

Some of the species are on the brink of extinction today.

Content of necklace parrots

Although the pearl parrot is an unpretentious bird, it is very desirable to create certain conditions for its maintenance:

  • ambient temperature - 15-20 degrees;
  • daylight hours - up to 12 hours;
  • air humidity - 60-70%;
  • a large cage with horizontal metal rods along which the bird will move.

Also, this parrot needs to provide space for flying. To do this, from time to time, let him fly around the room, cleared of dangerous objects that could harm him. Including - from various jars, books and houseplants.

Water procedures

Pearl parrots cannot live without water, especially in the heat. Therefore, they need to be sprayed with a spray bottle or under the shower. Also, these birds can be bathed 1-2 times a week in a bath with warm water. But it is worth remembering that the simultaneous bathing of the bird and its owner is unacceptable (there are such cases!). After all, it is very dangerous for a pet, unhygienic and not ethical.

Feeding

The necklace parrot's daily diet should include oats (25%), seeds (10-15%), millet (35%), fresh vegetables (5-7%). But you can also give special mineral additives, thanks to which its plumage will shine. And also walnuts, almonds, boiled corn, oatmeal, wheat germ. Occasionally - white bread crumb, cottage cheese and vegetables.

And the last advice to all lovers of necklace parrots is not to forget to wear them from time to time to the veterinarian. Since this bird, like everyone else, may experience various diseases that are not noticeable to the eye. Take care of your pet, and he will delight with his talk!
