The curly coat of poodles is a great field for creative endeavors. There are many haircuts for these dogs. There are classic exhibitions, and there are comfortable everyday ones.
Show haircuts for poodles
The "English saddle" is the most difficult haircut to perform and maintain. However, it allows you to mask many visible imperfections: straightened knee joints, a straight line of the abdomen, poorly developed muscles, rough bones. This haircut model leaves a fluffy hat on the head and ears, turning into a fluffy ball of wool on the body. The mane ends approximately under the last rib of the dog.
On the forelimbs, in the area of the wrist joint, the so-called "puffs" are left in the form of ovals. On the hind limbs, two "puffs" are left, following each other. They are shaped like a chicken egg. Around the waist of the poodle there is a belt of sheared wool. Thus, in the pelvic area, a semblance of woolen shorts remains.
"Continental" - this haircut resembles in many ways an "English saddle", but in the pelvic area the wool is shaved off, leaving only the so-called wool rosettes on both sides. Only one "boof" is left on the hind limb. The rosettes are located symmetrically on the croup of the animal, closer to the lower back, and not to the buttocks. They should be as close to the upper back line as possible. The rosettes help to visually raise the back line.
Everyday haircuts
"Sports". This model involves the complete exposure of only the paws, muzzle and tail line in front of the brush. On the throat, the hair is shortened. A cap is trimmed on the head, a pompom on the tail. The rest of the body is trimmed along a natural contour, and the length of the coat is no more than 2.5 cm. On the body, the coat may be slightly shorter than on the limbs. Due to the large area of the coat, the haircut can be manipulated to give the dog a more beautiful shape. If there are imperfections in the structure of the body, they can be corrected with a haircut.
The Retriever is the simplest and most natural haircut that shows the dog the way it is. Basically, this is a hunting haircut. After all, poodles are excellent duck hunters. To perform such a haircut, do everything as in the previous one, but cut the hair on the limbs and body shorter. In fact, with this haircut, the dog simply “undresses” from the fur. Again, very handy for working in water.
"Clown" - this haircut involves cutting almost all hair. The hair is left only on the head, tip of the tail and limbs in the form of "puffs". At the same time, the "puffs" are made not as voluminous as for exhibition haircuts. This haircut is good because it brings you closer to the quirks of show haircuts, but here you can rely on your taste, not on the standards. Very good haircut "clown" will go to those poodles, in nature which is especially vividly seen something clownish.
