Unfortunately, not all cat owners are of the opinion that the reproduction of these animals needs to be controlled. It is especially sad when a cat is free-range and knits uncontrollably, bringing 3-4 litters of kittens a year. Many owners simply drown mongrel kittens. But all these problems can be avoided by timely sterilizing the animal.

A little playful kitty appeared in your house? It is a great joy, because all kittens are so cute and touching. However, babies grow quickly, and with reaching puberty, a cat can cause a lot of problems for its owners, the most "harmless" of which is heartbreaking meowing around the clock. If the cat is not a valuable pedigree animal, and you do not plan to breed it, then it is best to neuter it at the age of one year.

How is a cat neutered?

Most often, in veterinary clinics, sterilization of domestic cats is performed surgically. Such an operation involves either the removal of the ovaries from the animal, or the removal of both the ovaries and the uterus; the second option is used if there are any neoplasms on the tissues of the cat's uterus.

On the day of the operation, the cat should not be fed, otherwise, after giving anesthesia, she may start to vomit uncontrollably. After the anesthesia has worked, an incision is made in the cat's tummy through which the veterinarian removes the animal's reproductive organs. After the operation, a blanket is put on the cat so that it cannot damage the seam. Full recovery of the animal takes from several days to two weeks.

Sterilization of a cat can be not only surgical, but also medication or radiation. However, these types of sterilization have many negative consequences, as a result of which they are rarely used.

Caring for a cat after spaying

Under the influence of anesthesia, the body temperature of a cat can drop by several degrees, which is very dangerous for its health. Therefore, after the operation, the cat must be carefully wrapped in a blanket or large towel and only then taken home. At home, lay it on the floor near a radiator or in any other warm place. Do not put the animal on a sofa or bed - when it comes to its senses, it can fall and be injured, because the cat's consciousness remains blurred for some time after the effect of anesthesia has passed.

Until the postoperative suture on the cat's abdomen has healed, make sure that the cat does not "lick" it. To do this, it is better for her to be in a special blanket, which can be bought at a veterinary clinic or a pet store.

Spaying pets is the most humane and harmless way to control their numbers. Sterilized cats do not have tumors of the reproductive organs, which 4 out of 5 pets who have not undergone this procedure are susceptible. A sterilized cat does not leave marks throughout the apartment and does not harass its owners with incessant screaming. Such animals do not feel at all disadvantaged in something, on the contrary - they live a long and happy life for the joy of their owners.
