Among all the aquarium crustaceans, the crab is the brightest and most interesting. The breeders of these creatures are attracted not only by their unusual appearance, but also by their rather entertaining behavior. A crab can become a decoration for a home aquarium and a real pride of its owner if you create optimal conditions for it, close to those in which these creatures live in nature.

It is necessary

  • - aquaterrarium;
  • - lamp;
  • - coarse sand;
  • - stones;
  • - granulated food for aquarium fish;
  • - vegetables, fruits, fish, seafood;
  • - table or sea salt;
  • - calcium chloride;
  • - ceramic shards.

Instructions

Step 1

Before you buy a crab from a pet store, you need to find the most suitable home for it. An ordinary aquarium, i.e. indoor pond without land will not work. To keep crabs at home, you need a special aquaterrarium, in which a sufficient amount of water will be combined with stone islets and a variety of vegetation. The size of the aquaterrarium, as well as the ratio of water and land in it, depends solely on the type of crabs you choose.

Step 2

The fact is that the crab spends most of its life on the shore, and not in the water. In order to create optimal living conditions for the pet, arrange its dwelling in such a way that the crab can easily move from a small artificial reservoir to the shore without any problems. Place a lamp over the stone islands. Crabs love light, you can often watch your pets willingly visit the artificially created "solarium".

Step 3

Use coarse sand as a substrate. Moisten it constantly with a drip or ebb and flow system. The thickness of the sand layer should be about 5 cm. The same value should be adhered to when organizing a reservoir for a crab. The water in it should be hard and slightly salted. To prepare it, dissolve 1 tsp. sea or table salt and 1 tsp. calcium chloride in 10 liters of water.

Step 4

It is advisable to install a filter in the crab pond. These creatures thrive in clean, cold water. You will have to change 25% of its total amount weekly. It is necessary to rinse the soil and clean it of feces and food debris every two months.

Step 5

Take care of the construction of shelters for the crabs. These creatures stubbornly defend their right to privacy, so they just need a secluded place in which they can hide from prying eyes. The role of shelters can be played by ceramic shards of various sizes and gaps between large stones.

Step 6

In terms of nutrition, domestic crabs are unpretentious. High quality pelleted food for aquarium fish can form the basis of the diet. Crabs will not give up on gammarus, bloodworms, tubifex and dry daphnia. Diversify your pet's diet with finely chopped vegetables, fruits, fish and seafood. Carefully place small pieces of these delicacies in front of crabs resting on stone islands.

Step 7

If you do not want to periodically observe "gladiatorial battles" and fierce battles, get one crab. These creatures are inveterate individualists, so they feel much more comfortable alone than in a society of their own kind. Despite the attractive and harmless, at first glance, appearance, crabs are quite aggressive. In nature, males often fight for territory, shelters, females and food. Often, such contractions are fatal.
