Aquarium scalar fish in nature live in slow-flowing rivers, swamps and reservoirs of the central Amazon basin. They are found among thickets in aquatic plants and among reeds. The scalar is characterized by a high disc-shaped body with highly elongated fins. Such a structure allows them to maneuver among the vegetation, as well as hide from enemies in time.

Unfortunately, even with proper observance of preventive measures, scalars can get sick. The cause of all diseases is improper housing or feeding conditions, stress, the introduction of pathogens along with the feed. In this case, it often happens that the fins of the fish split. To cure the fish, first change the water to 30%.
Step 2
Then add the drug Sulfur Bactopur (a conditioner for aquarium water that works against rotting fish, as well as against bacterial accumulations in the water) to the water in the aquarium.
Step 3
Change the water in the aquarium every day by 10-20% and add the medicine according to the instructions until the fins of the fish stop "whitening or crumbling". This will take approximately three to four days. Wash the filter sponge thoroughly every day.
Step 4
If sores or other injuries appear on the body, as well as on the fins of fish, try Melafix. This medication is water soluble and is an extract of Australian tea tree. It has a very high activity against various bacterial and fungal infections that occur in freshwater and marine fish.
Step 5
Before placing newly acquired scalars in a shared aquarium, first quarantine them in a separate aquarium for one month. When transporting and quarantining fish, as well as at each change of water, use a special preparation "Stress Coat".
Step 6
After you have finished using the drug, change the aquarium water by 50%. Change the water again every other day, also 50%.
Step 7
If the medications do not help and the fish have stopped eating, then once a day bathe sick scalars in rifampicin, furacilin or trichopolum for 30 minutes. So bathe sick fish for at least two days. On the third day, the fish should have an appetite.
