Selkirk Rex is a unique breed of cats that are distinguished not only by wavy hair, but also have an extremely peaceful character. This breed of cats appeared relatively recently - in 1987, in the United States. The breed was officially recognized in 1992, and in Russia it began to get divorced only in 2003. The ancestor of the Slkirk Rex was a stray cat with wavy hair, which was crossed with a Persian cat. There are two varieties of the breed - short-haired and long-haired. In the representatives of the first type, the coat is soft, plush, while in the cats of the second type, it is quite long, with curls in the chest, neck and abdomen.
Selkirk Rexes are of medium size, muscular body and weigh between 3.5 and 6 kg. Cats tend to grow larger than males, so they are less graceful. The Selkirk Rex's head is round, eyes are round, set wide apart. The color of the eyes should be combined with the color of the coat, and the color of cats of this breed can be absolutely any. The main distinguishing feature of Selkirk Rex is its curliness. Therefore, it is very important to properly care for their coat, especially if it is a long-haired breed. It is necessary to comb the cat regularly (at least once a week), however, do not be too zealous, so as not to spoil the curls.
The Selkirk Rex's personality is very flexible. They get along well with all family members, as well as with other cats and even dogs. In addition, these cats are very stress-resistant, so they are ideal for participating in various shows.
