Many people just love cats. This is not surprising, because it is so difficult to resist a cute face, silky hair and mischievous character. But are there curly cats? Oddly enough, they do exist.
It would seem difficult to imagine a curly cat or kitten. However, nature never ceases to amaze us. Today, several species of curly cats are officially registered. Yes, their fur does curl, and the curls are quite varied in quality and shape. It turns out that the hair of curly cats can have a wide variety of shapes: from subtle "waves" to elastic, dense curls.
The group that unites several breeds of curly cats is called "rex", which means "king". According to scientists, each of the breeds that are united in this group developed separately from the others, and this happened in different parts of the globe. It is believed that curls on a cat's fur are a kind of mutation, and the nature of its occurrence is not yet clear exactly.
Experts have been breeding these "mutant cats" for years, and as a result, they managed to consolidate the desired trait - to create a breed of curly cats. The work was carried out in different parts of the world, therefore, as a result, cats with different types of curls and other external signs were obtained. However, each of these breeds is interesting in its own way.
The breed of cats called "Selkir-Rex" has a very thick wavy coat. It is believed that the full formation of this breed has not yet happened. Breeding work has been carried out since 1987. The length of the coat in this breed is not strictly indicated; it can be either medium or long. Distinctive features of the breed - wavy coat, strong constitution, wide head with round eyes.
Another breed of curly cats is called the Cornish Rex. It is believed to be fully formed. Work on its creation began in 1950. This breed is characterized by a lean, very graceful body, rounded ears and an elongated muzzle. The wool of the "Cornish" is amazing, it resembles astrakhan fur. These cats are very intelligent and even trainable.
There are other curly breeds of "Rex", for example, "Devonian" and "Ural". These cats, as well as the "Cornish", have a graceful physique, however, their "curliness gene" is different, and these breeds developed independently. It is especially pleasant that the Ural Rex breed is a gift from domestic breeders. This breed developed separately in Russia, or rather, in the Sverdlovsk region. Moreover, the "Urals" are considered the most ancient representatives of curly cats.
Another breed of exotic cats is called "Laperm". She is originally from the USA. The main difference from all other breeds is that the "curl gene" in these cats is dominant. Even a mustache can curl at the "Laperm". The coat of these cats has both an undercoat and a guard hair, so they are very fluffy.
