To change a cat's character, you need to be aware of what has the greatest influence on its formation. In the first two months of life, the kitten is most susceptible to education and the formation of habits. A little later it will be possible to determine which of the two behavioral types of cats it belongs to.
Cats, like dogs, have long lived next to humans. However, unlike the latter, cats have retained their characteristic "individualism". Anyone who has a cat will tell about their pet that he has a pronounced ego with his own habits and characteristics.
The two main types of cats
The first corresponds to the idea of an ideal pet. It includes cats that have an incessant need to communicate with people and their relatives. They are quite affectionate, playful, not aggressive. Such cats are glad to anyone who comes into the house, they comfortably sit on their knees and show exceptionally friendliness towards the guest.
The second type includes animals that adore society of only 1-2 family members, to whom they feel love and trust. With the rest of the people, they are practically not disposed to communicate and often only tolerate their presence. The same line of behavior can be traced in relation to congeners: friendly ties in animals of this type are quite rare.
What can change a cat's personality
The first two months of its life are of particular importance in shaping the behavior of an animal. During this period, trust in people is developed and skills of communication with them are acquired. If the kitten is given enough attention and affection, the chances that he will grow up good-natured and courageous are significantly increased. Studying the behavior of cats has shown that especially much can be done to educate their character in this early period.
But hereditary inclinations will certainly make themselves felt when the kitten gets older. A behavioral deficiency such as sudden unreasonable aggressiveness may appear. Perhaps it arises because a person is not able to teach a kitten all the subtleties of communication inherent in a cat. An animal taken away from its mother early does not know how to channel its energy in the right direction and control independence. This character trait of a cat is almost impossible to fix.
There are two factors that can change the animal beyond recognition. The first is illness, traumatic events, accidents. The second is sex hormones. During the mating season, many cats become uncontrollable, which leads to the desire of the owners to neuter their pet.
In general, the researchers agree that the character of the cat can only be adjusted, but it is impossible to radically change it. The behavior of any animal will be influenced to a greater extent by hereditary factors than the habits inculcated by the method of their upbringing. Therefore, cats have always been considered to be pronounced "individualists" with innate character traits.
