Many of us keep cats in our homes. Some owners have encountered a situation where the kitten you bought refuses normal food and only eats ready-made, commercial, wet or dry cat food. This is due to the fact that the former owners fed him only store food.
It is necessary to wean your pet from this bad habit, not only because it is quite expensive to constantly buy not always cheap food, but also because it can harm the cat's health. Veterinarians are of the opinion that dry and wet cat food not only cannot provide all the vitamins and trace elements necessary for the animal, but also harm its health.
There are several ways to accustom your cat to homemade food. The most effective of these is the gradual replacement of food with homemade food. To do this, put food in a bowl for your pet, replacing about 10 percent of the volume with regular food. If you are using wet food, it is very easy to mash it with bread, pasta, potatoes, cereals, etc. If your pet prefers dry food, it is better to prepare a special porridge or vegetable puree for him. The recipe for porridge for a cat is very simple: take chicken necks, legs, bone residue, meat or sausage trimmings, boil them and add cereals there. Gradually increase the amount of homemade food in the bowl and decrease the amount of food.
Some cat owners, tired of the pet's whims, resort to more radical methods. In order to accustom a cat to homemade food, you just need to put other food, not food, in a bowl. When the animal is hungry, it will eat what is offered.
Other owners, taking pity on their pet, advise offering him other treats instead of food. Give your cat a piece of meat or sausage instead of feeding him food. So that the animal does not get used to eating only meat, mix it with bread, mashed potatoes, pasta, etc. This way you can gradually accustom the cat to homemade treats.
You should not completely abandon feeding with special feeds. You can add them to the food of the animal once or twice a week. Indeed, special feeds still contain some vitamins that your pet needs, especially in autumn and winter, when it is quite difficult to get them from homemade products.
