Distinguishing a girl hamster from a boy hamster can sometimes be difficult. At first glance, it is possible to determine the sex only in Dzungarian hamsters - the hair of the male "Dzungarik" is much longer than the hair of the females. But how do you know the gender of a different breed of hamster?
First, take your hamster in your hand. This must be done very carefully so as not to hurt the animal. Gently support your upper torso and voice with your thumb so that your lower torso and legs hang from your palm. This position of the hamster's body will allow you to carefully see his genitals and anus.
The genitals of hamsters (especially babies) are difficult to see with the naked eye, so do not try to consider whether the tail under the animal has signs of "hamster manhood." But what you need to pay attention to is the distance between the genital and anal openings. This is how you can tell a girl hamster from a boy hamster.
In females, the vagina is located next to the anus, almost closely. Another difference is that the girls' skin in this place is naked, not covered with wool. And having looked closely, on the belly of the hamster-girl, you can see the nipples located in two rows.
In male hamsters, the distance between the urogenital opening and the anus is much greater than in girls. In adult males, it can reach one and a half centimeters. In addition, boys in this area do not have "receding hairline" - the skin around the urogenital opening is covered with fur. If the hamster is more than a month old, looking closely, you can see small testicles at the base of the tail.
