The subcutaneous mite is one of the most dangerous parasites of animals and humans, belonging to the category of arthropods. Getting rid of it is a long and persistent process. The sooner you start treatment, the better your chances of success.
The disease caused by a subcutaneous mite is called demodicosis. In another way, the parasite that causes this disease is called the iron mite. It lives in the fur of the cat, lays its eggs and conducts moves throughout the body of the cat. If you look closely at the skin of an animal when light falls on it, you can notice the pearlescent sheen of the epidermis, which is one of the characteristic signs of the presence of this mite. This parasite causes huge significant damage to the animal's body. The cat becomes more angry, irritable, scratches, and sometimes bites.
There are many reasons for infection with this parasite. The most common of these is interaction with a sick animal. A cat can easily get demodicosis by interacting with another cat or dog, and even with a person. The transmission of the disease from animal to person is also possible. In addition, demodicosis occurs in conditions. Animals with weakened immunity and other skin diseases are at increased risk.
The main symptoms of demodicosis are the appearance of unbearable itching in the cat, and subsequently - pimples and reddish nodules on the skin. At the same time, the hair falls out, and the animal often licks the affected area. With the progression of the disease, the bald areas on the cat's body become more and more, it becomes lethargic and looks painful. The skin becomes covered with bubbles and in some places looks like mother-of-pearl. This is due to the fact that the tick, making moves, leaves its marks. To make sure that your cat really has demodicosis, and not any other disease, it is enough to collect the skin in a fold and squeeze it from all sides. As a result, you will be able to pull out a tick measuring about 0.2-0.3 mm with a narrow long body and four claws.
It is necessary to start treating the disease already from the onset of the first symptoms. In order for the treatment to be successful, you must first completely trim the animal, and then wash it with a special shampoo against dermatitis and seborrhea. Then you should smear all the affected areas of the body with oil and wait until it dries completely. It will take 5-6 hours. At this time, you need to ensure that the cat does not lick the skin. Next, your cat will need to be treated with an anti-demodicosis medication as prescribed by your veterinarian. These include amitrazine, cytioate, safroderm, amidel gel. Depending on the location of the affected areas and the action of the medication, the doctor prescribes a certain course of treatment with ointment. It usually lasts 12-15 days. In addition, the cat is prescribed medications that increase immunity, as well as vitamins. During the period of illness, the animal needs to be fed more in order to restore its strength.
